When to Choose AWS Transform MGN
Why AWS Transform MGN?
AWS Transform MGN is the recommended service to rehost your applications to AWS.
With AWS Transform MGN, you can migrate your applications from physical infrastructure, VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (Amazon VPC), and other clouds to AWS.
You can use AWS Transform MGN to migrate all your applications and databases that run on supported versions of Windows and Linux operating systems.

When should I use AWS Transform MGN and when should I use AWS Transform agentic experience?
Both experiences use the same AWS Transform MGN replication and cutover engine. The difference is in the workflow:
- Use AWS Transform when you want an agentic, guided experience. It orchestrates the end-to-end workflow, and when you reach the rehosting step, you can choose to continue with the agentic experience or switch to the classic MGN console. You're not locked into one path.
- Use MGN directly (via console) when you prefer the classic console-based experience for bulk rehosting, or when you've already built a wave plan manually or with another tool and just need to execute.
Either way, you can switch between them without losing context.
